No less than four Belgrade dailies today bring interviews with President Boris Tadic on their front pages. BLIC—"Serbia has to continue on the road taken after Oct. 5", the front page quotes President Boris Tadic, who says the EU-Kosovo dilemma is false, since Serbia has chosen both. Press: Tadic steals limelight Tragedy struck in Zemun city bakery yesterday: "Dough mixer crashes worker". BORBA—More quotes from Tadic in, "Blackmail will not succeed", this time, the president talks about today's UN Security Council meeting on Kosovo that he will address. "Decree guards livestock", is about the positive effect last year's decree to ban export of wheat and corn reportedly has on agriculture. Meanwhile, the Smurfs, who were fiercely popular in Serbia in the 1980s, are celebrating their 50th anniversary. The paper reports about the classic cartoon: "Smurfs hang in there". VECERNJE NOVOSTI—More Tadic on the front pages: "The right one will win", the president says, as his campaign to be reelected enters its final stages, and tells the daily that Serbia will not give up Kosovo, at the same time dubbing the anti-EU campaign led from some quarters as "fight for cheap points." The paper also analyses the effects of a number of botched privatizations and workers' protests that followed in, "Tenders run over workers". "Died in bread", is about the Zemun bakery fatal accident. GAZETA—"Ceda: Gay marriage is OK!", the front page quotes from the answers LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic gave in a questionnaire provided by a gay association. GLAS JAVNOSTI—"Curse anyone who recognizes Kosovo", quotes from Metropolitan Amfilohije's recent New Year message, that has "stirred spirits"; the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) dignitary's public statements are often seen as controversial. Meanwhile, as the campaigning draws to a close, the paper reports: "Messages to voters all over the place". DANAS—Unsurprisingly, the newspaper's front page has Tadic on it: "No majority for any kind of independence," the president comments ahead of today's UN SC Kosovo session. As for the January 20 election, the latest CeSID poll is interpreted under, "Decision in second round". A source from Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's cabinet has revealed for the media: "EU will not send mission to Kosovo on Jan. 28". KURIR—Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, along with his role in alleged Euroaxis Bank wrongdoings, remains firmly in the tabloid's grip for another day: "Dinkic under investigation". Not only that, but the tabloid claims that "Dinkic and RDP B92 CEO Veran Matic incurred EUR 3mn damages to the state". "NIS goes to Russians" – after dealing with Dinkic, who is the main critic of the deal, the tabloid returns to its claims that the sale of NIS to Gazprom is a done deal. POLITIKA—"Tycoons in race for IMT", the daily says that IMT, which manufactures tractors and other agricultural machinery, will likely go to tycoons. Tadic is on this front page once again, but this time as a target for his presidential rival, the Radicals' Tomislav Nikollic: "I root for Tadic to sign the SAA". "Russia has always been a bridge between East and West", celebrated Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov, who is in Serbia, tells the newspaper. PRESS—"Murderers protected by state", the tabloid says on the front page, marking the anniversary of the liquidation of Zeljko Raznatovic, a.k.a. Arkan, one of the dominant criminal underworld figures in Serbia in the 1990s.
