The latest Strategic Marketing poll shows that turnout at the upcoming presidential elections will be around 3.1 million voters. Strategic Marketing Director Srdjan Bogosavljevic told daily Gradjanski List that this was “relatively low, at the level of the last presidential elections,” adding that the election date coincided with a religious holiday and that some citizens would not take part precisely because of this, even though they would otherwise. New poll: Low turnout expected “At the end of the day, there isn’t even much tension around the campaign, as these elections aren’t, at least for now, being viewed as particularly important, which in no way reflects their true significance,” said Bogosavljevic. In the Strategic Marketing director’s opinion, one of the reasons for “the pale campaign” is the short campaign time that has coincided with the Christmas and New Year holidays, though he expected “a slightly more serious confrontation” over the last week. He added that “it is clear that the elections will go to a second round” as “four fairly strong candidates” - Cedomir Jovanovic, Velimir Ilic, Milutin Mrkonjic i Istvan Pastor – would together receive at least 25 percent of the vote. “For this reason alone the elections will require a second round. It doesn’t make any sense to me for [Serb Radical Party candidate Tomislav] Nikolic and [Democratic Party candidate and President Boris] Tadic to save their main aces and arguments for the next round,” he said. Bogosavljevic believes that citizens have not yet grasped the extent to which the main candidates’ platforms differ and “are not conscious of the ramifications the results of these elections may have for Serbia.” According to the Strategic Marketing director, more and more citizens are saying that they have had enough and no longer wish to vote “against”, adding that “in effect, we’re facing a big upheaval if power ends up changing hands.”
