B92 understands from diplomatic quarters in Brussels that the chances of the EU and Serbia signing the SAA are slim. There is still a chance of Serbia signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) provided full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal is quickly established, said EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn. "Chances of signing SAA are remote" “It’s a shame that Serbia’s European future has been brought to the level of domestic power games,” Rehn told Reuters, and called on Belgrade not to tie EU integration with Brussels’ future role in Kosovo. European Commission (EC) spokeswoman Christina Nagy said that the EC and Serbia had discussed accession and its implications as equal partners, without prejudicing the future status of Kosovo. “It seems that this fact has been forgotten in the debate that’s currently ongoing. The SAA is not something the EU imposes on any country, but rather represents a recognition of privileged relations with the EU and brings very concrete benefits for the citizens of that country,” said Nagy. She added that the EU wished to help Serbia in its European integration process, but that ultimately it was in the hands of the Serbian people and its leaders to ascertain whether those conditions had been met.
