Adviser to the PM Srdjan Djuric yesterday criticized a statement made by Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel. Rupel said that it was a "false dilemma" that the EU either must sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia or send a mission to Kosovo. Kostunica adviser criticizes Rupel "It would be a good thing if Dimitrij Rupel did not allow himself the liberty of deciding on behalf of Serbia." "Whether it is a false dilemma that the EU must choose between signing the SAA with Serbia and the decision to send a mission to implement the rejected Ahtisaari plan, Dimitrij Rupel will find out on January 28," Djuric said in a statement to Beta. The vice president of Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Aleksandar Popovic, had stated that the European Union must choose "either Serbia, or a puppet creation" in Kosovo. He added that Serbia was awaiting the European Union's response whether it would on Jan. 28 decide to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Serbia or whether, as he put it, it would send its troops to Kosovo to "dismember" Serbia. "If the EU decides to betray the basic principles on which it is founded, to violate the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 and illegally send its mission in order to create a puppet quasi-state, at that moment, it is quite clear, the agreement with Serbia will no longer exist," Popovic declared.
