Dragan Sutanovac does not expect Serbia to be invited to join NATO at the alliance’s next summit in Bucharest. In an interview with today’s edition of Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz, the defense minister said that the government's clear Euro-Atlantic orientation had changed since last August after “the unsubstantiated reaction accusing NATO of being the main proponent of unilateral Kosovo independence.” Sutanovac: Serbia unlikely to join NATO Sutanovac said that the Serbian parliament did not wish to move any closer to the alliance. Asked whether Russian troops and rockets would be deployed in Serbia, as has been speculated, he said that U.S., Russian and any other soldiers were welcome to conduct joint exercises with the Serbian Army, but that “no-one’s rockets are welcome in Serbia.” The defense minister added that the army was under full civil control and that there was no indication that certain troops, be it together or individually, were helping Hague fugitives. “Neither are any state funds being used to that end. People trust us now. During [former Hague Chief Prosecutor] Carla Del Ponte’s last visit to Belgrade, she didn’t even come to see me or ask me anything, as they trust us and our responses,” he affirmed.
