The European Court of Human Rights has approved the extradition of retired Croatian General Vladimir Zagorac. Zagorac is accused of the theft of state diamonds worth USD 5mn. The Court’s ruling questions the Austrian courts’ temporary measures prohibiting extradition. Strasbourg approves extradition of Croatian general According to media in Zagreb, the general’s lawyer, Zvonimir Hodak, is unconcerned and claims that Strasbourg’s decision does not imply anything negative in a formal sense. “Until we receive a final decision, which we hope will be optimistic, there is no question of Zagorac being handed over,” said Hodak. Meanwhile, the general’s legal team is currently translating letters exchanged between Croatian underworld figure Hrvoje Petrac and Ivo Sanader that they intend to use to support Zagorac’s case.
