Serbian police (MUP) are still looking for two armed robbers who held bank employees at gunpoint in Belgrade Friday. They stole RSD 180,000, EUR 3,000 and USD 1,000 from a Komercijalna Bank branch after pushing their way past security, grabbing the money and disappearing from the scene before the police arrived. Several eyewitnesses told police they noticed two men run away from the bank and enter one of the apartment buildings in the vicinity. When police, which included crime squad detectives, regular and special uniformed police, searched the building, they detained one person. Unofficial information says that the man's connection to the heist has not been confirmed. Police continue to search the area looking for clues that might lead them to the robbers. This is the fifth bank robbery in Belgrade since the start of the year, while police managed to solve four cases, make arrests and recover the money stolen. Last month, police apprehended armed robbers minutes after they held up a bank in New Belgrade, letting them escape toward Belgrade, knowing their car would get stuck in a traffic jam on a bridge, where officers made the arrests.
