Rasim Ljajic says that he has new information to present to Carla Del Ponte when she visits Belgrade on December 3. “We’ll let her know of our latest activities in that area and give her some new details that we’re currently checking up on. However, it’s unlikely that Ratko Mladic or anyone else will be extradited to the Hague before Mrs Del Ponte leaves her post (of chief prosecutor),” said the labor and social policy minister and coordinator of the Council for Hague Tribunal Cooperation in Novi Sad. Ljajic promises Del Ponte new leads “It’s in our interests to continue working with the Tribunal, as our European integration depends on it. Without this millstone round our necks, Serbia would also be in a better negotiating position as far as the Kosovo talks are concerned,” he added. According to Ljajic, certain EU member-states are already prepared to let Belgrade and Brussels sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), while others are insisting on seeing the Hague chief prosecutor’s report first. “I hope that the agreement will be signed by the end of January next year, regardless of what happens with Kosovo, as these are two completely separate processes,” underlined the minister. Today, Ljajic, together with Japanese ambassador Tadashi Nagayi, handed over the keys for 24 houses to the families of soldiers fallen in combat and war invalids.
