The Serbian Radical Party (SRS) has demanded the scheduling of a parliament session dedicated to Kosovo. The largest opposition party wants the parliament to debate "a report by the Belgrade negotiating team in the status talks", as well as the state's planned reaction in case of a unilateral declaration of the province's independence, SRS Secretary General Aleksandar Vucic said Thursday. Radicals want "urgent" parliament session on Kosovo Vucic told a news conference that the MPs and citizens should be informed about Serbia's moves in case some EU countries and the United States unilaterally recognize Kosovo's independence. He added that it is necessary to know what Serbia will do in order to protect its citizens and territory. Vucic noted that so far the Serbian government "has not come out with any serious and rational proposals". "If an urgent parliament session is not held, it will not be possible to hold parliament sessions on any other topic," the Radical warned. Yesterday, Speaker Oliver Dulic, from the ranks of the ruling Democrats (DS), said that he would schedule an extraordinary session at which the negotiating team will submit a report, while the lawmakers will debate further steps with regards to Kosovo. He could not give the exact date of the session, saying that this will be revealed after he meets with Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic. Dulic told reporters in the parliament building that "it is time for this report to be submitted", because "the MPs and the citizens want to know what took place at the talks and what are prospects of further status negotiations are." The speaker added that "any negative outcomes of the Kosovo crisis could affect the scheduling of presidential and local elections". The parliament was in session today (Tanjug)
