The LSV and SVM parties are calling for Vojvodina to have its own provincial president. Under a proposal put forward by the League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) and the Union of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) for Vojvodina’s status, the province would have a president, government, ministers and ombudsmen. Vojvodina wants president According to daily Dnevnik, the Vojvodina president would be elected by the provincial parliament with a two-thirds majority to a five year term in office. The president would represent Vojvodina both home and abroad, and would propose candidates for the Vojvodina Executive Council Presidency and call elections for the Vojvodina assembly. In the event of this proposal being rejected, under an alternative solution, all the president’s powers would be carried out by the Vojvodina assembly speaker, the daily writes. According to this proposal, there would no longer be a Vojvodina Executive Council, but a Vojvodina government, that would have ministers instead of secretaries. The SVM-LSV proposal envisages the formation of a Council for National Communities, as a new provincial body. This council would act as a special organ of parliament, made up of an equal number of officials from each minority community, and would have powers to influence provincial decisions relating to minority rights issues. Vojvodina plans to define itself as an autonomous province within Serbia, according to the proposed document. Under the proposal, communities with full and equal rights in Vojvodina would include Serbs, Hungarians, Croats, Slovaks, Montenegrins, Romanians, Roma and others who traditionally live in the region.
