The trial of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) member Sinan Morina resumed today in Belgrade. Witnesses Olgica Bozanic and Cvetko Burdzic told the court today that Serb locals from the villages of Opterusa and Retimlje in Kosovo had been deported alive out of Malisevo by bus, eight days after their kidnap. Trial of Orahovac KLA group continues Bozanic said that the Association of Refugees and Displaced Persons from Kosovo, of which she is the secretary, had compiled a list of kidnappers and Serb inhabitants of those villages who had survived the Albanian attack on the night of July 17/18, 1998. “Krunislava Baljosevic told me that she had seen Spasa and Miodrag Burdzic, and Nemanja Bozanic from Opterusa alive eight days later in a bus, together with some Retimlja inhabitants and Roma, and that they had been deported out of Malisevo,“ she said. She testified that nobody knew where they had been taken, nor what had happened to them after their abduction. The bodies of 16-year old Bozanic and the Burdzics were found in 2005 in a ditch in Volujak. She said that witnesses had told her that armed Albanians wearing masks and military fatigues had broken into Mladen Bozanic’s backyard in Opterusa, among whom they had recognized their neighbors Ejup Yupa Kabashi, Haxhi Mazreku, Sokoli Bytyci, Safet Kabashi, and Sedat Krasniqi. Cvetko Burdzic said that on July 17 he had gone to Jagodina, returning to Kosovo on July 25 in search of his father Spasoje. “I couldn’t enter Opterusa, and Slavka Baljosevic told me that she had seen my father eight days after his kidnap,“ he said. Burdzic added that he had entered Opterusa for the first time at the end of August, and that 90 percent of homes, both Serb and Albanian, had been destroyed by that time. Both witnesses stated that they knew the accused, saying that he had been their neighbor. Morina and 34 members of an Orahovac KLA group are charged with attacking 10 Serb homes in the village of Opterusa, setting fire to and destroying religious buildings, persecution and imprisoning civilians between July 17 and 21, 1998.
