DSS support for President Boris Tadic isn't a condition for the survival of the ruling coalition, says the DS. Democratic Party (DS) Vice-President and Justice Minister Dusan Petrovic said today that the Democratic Party of Serbia's (DSS) backing for Tadic at the upcoming presidential elections would not be a condition for the government’s survival. "Coalition doesn't hinge on DSS support" Petrovic said that it was in the DSS’s interests to support the president, but that it was not vital, as the DS’s main goals were those for forming the government in the first place. “We agreed to form a government in order to continue talks with the EU on stabilization and association, to complete Hague Tribunal cooperation, both of which are bases to help boost the economy,“ said the DS minister. “It doesn’t make any sense to me, should the DSS come to a different decision, to say that we’re angry and that we don’t feel cooperation with the Hague and the EU is important any more. Tadic will win the elections, regardless,“ he asserted. Dusan Petrovic (FoNet, archive)
