PM Vojislav Kostunica is in Budapest Tuesday where he met his Hungarian counterpart Ferenc Gyurcsany. A welcome ceremony was held on Kossuth Square, in front of the Hungarian parliament, after which the prime ministers of the two neighboring states had an official meeting. Kostunica in Hungary for bilateral, Kosovo talks Kostunica said afterwards that his government was determined to find some kind of compromise that would keep Kosovo within Serbia. "An independent Kosovo would violate the Serbian constitution," he told reporters in the Hungarian capital. "The Serbian state's standpoint continues to be that Kosovo should remain part of Serbia, but with maximum rights," he continued. "In recent years we have done everything in the interests of finding a compromise solution... The Albanian side is doing nothing but ask for independence,'" Kostunica said. Hungary is keen to play a role in ongoing Kosovo talks, and Gyurcsany recently discussed the future of Kosovo with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He said Hungary wanted to see a compromise agreement between Belgrade and Pristina and warned against anybody taking unilateral action. "We hope for ... a common resolution to settle the issue appropriately by December 10," Gyurcsany said. According to earlier announcements, Kostunica will also discuss bilateral political and economic relations, Hungary's admission into the Schengen zone later this year, and the issue of dual citizenship as he meets with top Hungarian officials, including President Laszlo Solyom and parliament speaker Katalin Szili. Koštunica said afterwards that his government was determined to find some kind of compromise that would keep Kosovo within Serbia.
