A former foreign minister says Serbia’s Hong Kong proposal for Kosovo is designed with future generations in mind. Goran Svilanovic said that the proposal giving the province status similar to that of Hong Kong meant that Kosovo would remain a part of Serbia, only as far as maps were concerned, and that governance of the province was completely irrelevant. "Kosovo to be part of Serbia in name only" “That means we’ve reached a position where anyone at all can govern the territory, and that all that matters to us is that when our grandchildren start drawing maps of Serbia, they’ll still be able to include Kosovo,“ said Svilanovic. The former foreign minister told Dnevnik that this indicated that Serbia’s position on Kosovo had evolved since the beginning of the status talks, and that it was hard to predict their eventual outcome. He thought that the mediating Troika’s final proposal would still most probably be based around the so-called 14 points, with the inclusion of certain amendments catering to Belgrade and Pristina’s own demands.
