The concessionaires chosen to construct the Horgos-Pozega highway have yet to receive funds for starting the project. The Austrian companies Alpina and PORR requested an estimated EUR 1.7bn for financing the project, according to daily Blic. Fresh problems with Horgos – Pozega highway The deadline for securing a bank guarantee is January 2008, and March 31 is the deadline for credit approval. “If the money is not secured by then and the financial structure has not been closed, there will be no fines. All of the risks are on Serbia, which must wait and hope,” the daily writes. The deal was previously plagued by the government's reluctance to reveal its details to the public, sparking a public row between Vojvodina officials and Infrastructure Minister Velimir Ilic, which ended with the publication of the contract, five months after it was signed.
