Greeks behind RK Beograd takeover

The Marfin Investment Group has announced that it has come to an agreement with Verano Motors over ownership of RK Beograd. The deal, announced on the Greek company's website yesterday, gives them a majority two-thirds stake in the department store chain, after Verano bought RK Beograd yesterday at auction in Belgrade for EUR 360mn. The group, it is reported, has become the 66.67 percent owner of the third largest sales chain in Serbia. On the site, there is also a statement from Marfin’s Vice-President Andreas Vgenopoulos who says the company is planning to become the biggest owner of commercial property in Serbia, and that acquiring RK Beograd will help them achieve that aim. Marfin owns the Greek banks, Piraeus and Laiki, and they have also announced plans to invest in Bulgaria and Serbia. Representatives of citizens’ associations, shareholders and RK Beograd trustees are happy with the price, but are now seeking an increase in compensation payments, following the sale of the company.
