Srdjan Djuric accused the U.S. on Saturday of obstructing the Kosovo negotiating process. The prime minister's media adviser told Beta that U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey, ahead of talks in Brussels had again encouraged Albanian separatists to declare unilateral independence after December 10 on the basis of the Ahtisaari plan. Government slams State Dept. comments “Casey maintains at the same time that an independent Kosovo doesn’t mean the creation of a Greater Albania, which should presumably be an argument that independence for the republic is the only solution,” Djuric told Beta. At yesterday’s briefing in the White House, Casey said that Kosovo independence would not lead to the creation of a Greater Albania, and that Kosovo was a special case that should not serve as a model for resolving similar problems internationally.
