The parliament Wednesday approved a second term for Radovan Jelasic, incumbent National Bank of Serbia (NBS) governor. His candidacy was put forward by the Finance Committee, at a proposal by his party, G17 Plus. Jelasic re-elected central bank chief HIs election today ended a two-day debate in the parliament, where opposition MPs from the Serb Radical Party (SRS), the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) mostly took part in the discussion, disputing Jelasic's candidacy and asking that he should come to the parliament and answer questions from lawmakers. However, the governor did not attend either sessions. The opposition criticized the way Jelasic was proposed for a new, five-year term, and his results at the helm of the central bank. HIs election today ended a two-day debate in the parliament, where opposition MPs from the Serb Radical Party (SRS), the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) mostly took part in the discussion, disputing Jelašić's candidacy and asking that he should come to the parliament and answer questions from lawmakers.

However, the governor did not attend either sessions.

The opposition criticized the way Jelašic was proposed for a new, five-year term, and his results at the helm of the central bank.

In addition to the ruling coalition, MPs from the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians have also voted in favor of Jelašic.
