Croatian Agrokor did it wish to comment on the reasons for a slowdown of the announced merger with Serbian Delta. Earlier announcements said that the deal should be finalized by November when the two company's retail chains will merge. Delta – Agrokor deal in November? According to the media, Delta and Agrokor partnership was agreed on in August last year, when owners Miroslav Miskovic and Ivica Todoric met, planning to jointly build a coffee processing plant worth EUR 12mn in Stara Pazova, Serbia. The plan was to release funds for regional investment by joining forces, specifically that in Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and Ukraine. However, Delta proceeded to independently acquire Bulgarian Pikadili only a few months ago, a deal valued at EUR 80mn. Konzum meanwhile takes up the leading position in the Croatian market with more than 600 sales units, 10,000 employees and a 30 percent share in the market, while Delta M leads the way in Serbian retail business with 350 stores, 16,000 workers and an 11.7 percent market share, according to 2006 data. Agrokor has two mega stores in Serbia, while Delta has no presence in the Croatian market. The Serbian company plans to mass a EUR 1.5bn income this year, 44 percent up compared to 2006, and to invest some EUR 400mn in the country and regionally.
