Parliament ratifies CEFTA, Kyoto

The parliament on Monday adopted a law confirming the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA). The regional agreement aims at establishing a free trade zone in the region by December 31, 2010. Parliament ratifies CEFTA, Kyoto The multilateral document, that replaces 32 bilateral free trade agreements, which has so far been signed by eight customs territories (Albania, Moldova, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and UNMIK on behalf of Kosovo) was also ratified by all except Serbia. The ratification of CEFTA should boost competitiveness in Serbia and attract foreign investments, reports suggest. The parliament also adopted changes to the Tobacco Law, thus adapting the domestic legislature to the regulations of the EU, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and CEFTA. Also Monday, Serbian lawmakers adopted the Law on Confirming the Kyoto Protocol with the general UN convention on climate change. The ratification of the Kyoto Protocol is believed to be of vital importance for Serbia in its bid to join European integrations, in view of attracting foreign investments.
