The Russian ambassador to Serbia says a unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence is the worst of all solutions. Aleksandr Alekseyev pointed out that those who gave their approval to such a step would "bear huge responsibility." Alekseyev warns about unilateral moves In an interview with the Serbian state television RTS, Alekseyev said that as far as the resolution of Kosovo’s status was concerned, Russia’s interest was that the system of international law was not turned into chaos. The international rules of the game must be observed, the ambassador saidm which was why his country was taking such an active role in the settlement of the matter. Botsan-Kharchenko still upbeat after London talks The Russian member of the Contact Group mediating troika Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said he was still upbeat in spite of the fact that after the London talks, the positions of Belgrade and Pristina remain as before. Preparations for the extremely important negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina were carried out successfully in London, and the two sides committed themselves to generating a constructive atmosphere in the first round of negotiations in New York, envoy Botsan-Kharchenko said in an interview with the BBC. The Troika places great hope in the forthcoming direct negotiations, he said. "I believe they (talks) will represent an opportunity for a much wider discussion between the two parties throughout October and November, the Russian diplomat said. For our part, we have called on the two parties to put forward possible compromise solutions, to consider constructive and creative ideas, fresh ideas, which might encourage the other side to accept a constructive approach," he added. Along with Botsan-Kharchenko, the Troika comprises the EU and U.S. representatives, Wolfgang Ischinger and Frank Wisner.
