Serbia's only Albanian lawmaker, Riza Halimi, says that "minor incidents aside", the situation in the south is stable. "Things are stable even though the government’s approach to solving problems is not good, indeed it’s very bad," said Halimi, who is the president of the Party for Democratic Action (PDD), and one of Valley Albanian leaders. Halimi calls for fresh approach in south "I don’t think that there can be political or security stability without a political approach, which is currently lacking," he added. "This situation is best reflected by the recent visit to the south of Serbia by both the ministers of defense and police, who went in the field, met with police and army commanders, but didn’t see fit to meet the legitimate Albanian representatives in my district," Halimi told Fonet. The first step towards mending relations in the south of Serbia could be a visit by the minister for local self-government to the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, he beleives. Halimi voiced the hope that it would "signal a new approach by the government to tackling really sensitive problems in the region."
