A train dispatcher has been remanded in custody on suspicion of having caused the August 24 train crash. Novi Sad Municipal Court Investigative Judge Tatjana Djuraskovic told Beta news agency that the dispatcher, identified as Ninoslav A. from the Karlovacki Vinogradi train stop, has been interrogated on Sunday and placed under 30-day custody. The crash occurred when an engine and a freight train collided between Karlovacki Vinogradi and Cortanovci stops. The two train drivers, Zivko Topalovic and Milan Ivancevic died, while five people sustained severe injuries and received treatment in the Novi Sad Clinical Center. Among the injured were Aleksandar Jovanovic, 64, Miroslav Hejdiler, 44, Milos Ilic, 25, Sanja Stefanovic, 24, and Zoran Mitic, 53, all of them Serbian Railways employees. Their condition is stable. On Saturday, officials from the public enterprise Serbian Railways said that human error had most likely caused the collision between two trains on the Belgrade – Novi Sad railway on August 24, which cost two people their lives and seriously injured five others.

The crash occurred when an engine and a freight train collided between Karlovački Vinogradi and Čortanovci stops.

The two train drivers, Živko Topalović and Milan Ivančević died, while five people sustained severe injuries and received treatment in the Novi Sad Clinical Center.

Among the injured were Aleksandar Jovanović, 64, Miroslav Hejdiler, 44, Miloš Ilić, 25, Sanja Stefanović, 24, and Zoran Mitić, 53, all of them Serbian Railways employees. Their condition is stable.
