Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic has announced a reconstruction of the Clinical Center of Serbia (KCS). The KCS health-care complex comprises several buildings and numerous wings, some of which are in poor condition and in need of a thorough reconstruction, including the pulmonary clinic, a surgery wing, orthopedic and urology clinics. Clinical Center in for major reconstruction “We have already selected eight companies in a competition to design and plan the Center’s construction to suit the best standard of the health-care needs of the Serbian citizens. Planning will take up most of 2008,” Milosavljevic told B92 Saturday. The works will include restoration of facilities that are part of the KCS complex according to the list of priorities. Some will be adjusted to accommodate terminally-ill patients in need of palliative care. Milosavljevic said that the construction of a new heating plant in Belgrade will provide heating supplies to the KCS, together with 15,000 apartments in Belgrade’s suburb of Vozdovac. “The new heating system represents a prelude to upcoming major construction works in the KCS complex,” he explained. “A complex public procurement procedure is under way,” the minister said, adding that the first PET scanner will be installed in the KCS this year, while others will be put in hospitals in Nis, Sremska Kamenica and Kragujevac.
