On Wednesday, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandar Alekseyev announced the mediating Troika's first task. Regardless of the conflicting positions of the U.S., Russia and the EU, represented in the Troika, this is to ensure good dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Alekseyev said. "Troika to guarantee direct talks" "Moscow expects the upcoming talks to yield a compromise and remains firm on its position on Kosovo," said Alekseyev at Belgrade’s M Hotel, where he was awarded honorary membership of the Association of Serbian Hosts. The ambassador stated that Moscow was looking forward to working with the U.S. and EU Troika representatives. In response to a report by the International Crisis Group predicting bloodshed if the status issue was not settled soon, he said that this was just "another form of blackmail" directed at Serbia and Russia.
