Smederevo’s District Prosecution has submitted an indictment to the court regarding a university corruption scandal.

Law school corruption case soon in court

District Prosecution spokeswoman Marina Galjak-Nikolić said Friday that the indictment spanning 133 pages will be officially submitted to the Court, defendants and their legal representatives by the end of the day.

According to her, the indictment contains 43 persons, including 23 university professors. As many as 16 suspects had been taken into custody earlier.

The District Court has 48 hours to decide whether to prolong the detention terms, and the indictment will take full effect after the court rules on possible appeals the defendants can file up to eight days after receipt of the indictment.

“Only then can the Court issue the indictment and make it public,” Galjak-Nikolić said.
