Kosovo solution, “something in between”

Kosovo solution, “something in between”

“Such a status model would let Kosovo join financial and other international institutions that would support its economic development, excluding the possibility of attaining membership in the UN and other institutions reserved for sovereign states,” Ivanović said.

In a meeting with members of the British parliament visiting Kosovo, Ivanović said that having in mind the current state of affairs in Kosovo, compromise over its final status was not possible.

“A new UN resolution should mandate the EU mission set to replace UNMIK in Kosovo, and provide for the international military presence over the next ten to fifteen years,” he said.

According to Ivanović, creating a Kosovo army would amount to another problem, which would upset the remaining Serbs in Kosovo.

Kosovo opposition leader demands new strategy

Meanwhile, Kosovo Albanian opposition party leader Veton Surroi Thursday pressed his fellow Kosovo politicians to develop and announce a concrete strategy that would gain the province’s independence.

Surroi, who heads the Reformist Party ORA (ORA), told reporters that he has sent a letter to members of Kosovo’s Unity Team, a group of top politicians responsible for resolving details related to the region’s status, demanding a decision regarding the recent developments on Kosovo’s final status.

Surroi said the team’s position should be presented to Kosovo’s Assembly.

The letter comes in the midst of further potential delay in a resolution of the Kosovo standoff, ORA spokesman Ylli Hoxha told Balkan Insight.

Although Surroi’s letter has not been made public, Hoxha said it addresses the “need to analyze the actual developments on Kosovo’s status process, and the dilemma of what should be the next steps that Kosovo politicians should take.”
