According to him, the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE) is the first international organization which has been presented with the reform results.

“OSCE has 56 members from Russia to the United States, and in this case, ambassadors and military representatives attended. Considering the role and reputation that the organization has in the security sector, we decided this was the right place to introduce the results of the reorganization,” the army chief said.

Ponoš added the meeting lasted unusually long and that participants showed great interest.

“Judging by the questions many countries are facing problems with reorganizing their armies,” he said, adding that Serbia completed this task in 13 months.

The Defense Ministry’s website reported that the purpose of reorganization was to establish a more cost effective and efficient army.

During previous 13 months, the Army established the new structure, with fewer units, and set up three commands instead of the previous seven: Land Forces Command, Air Force Command and the Training Command.

The number of directly subordinated units has also decreased.

Ponoš however refrained from commenting the domestic and international experts’ praise for the Army, which is said to have made more progress in reforms than any other state institution.
