Đurić told Beta that the meeting in St. Petersburg on June 9 will take place at an important point "since it has become obvious" that Martti Ahtisaari's plan on Kosovo's supervised independence had failed, and that "it cannot pass the UN Security Council."

"The meeting between Koštunica and Putin will be a significant opportunity to consider new and fresh ideas on how to start a new negotiating cycle, which would lead to an agreed solution for the status of the southern province," Đurić said.

Đurić also pointed out that Serbia and Russia agreed in their policies regarding Kosovo, which “are based on principled stands that the UN Charter must be respected, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all UN members."
