Macedonia, Albania receive protest notes

The Foreign Ministry has dispatched a protest note in reaction to the <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2007&mm=06&dd=02&nav_category=92&nav_id=41552" class="text-link" target= "_blank">recent statements by Macedonian and Albanian FMs</a>.

“The debate about the final status of the province is yet to follow in the UN Security Council, which is why such statements may destabilize the region and violate the fundamental principles the UN and the international order is based on,” the statement read. 

“Serbia remains committed to strengthening good neighborly relations, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of the all states in the region, and also remains convinced that Kosovo’s independence would set a dangerous precedent and question the integrity of other states in the Balkans and elsewhere in the world,” the statement concluded.

Countries in favor of Ahtisaari’s plan should be ready to face its influence on their own states, Koštunica says.

In a statement to Beta, Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica stressed that considering the fact "not a single of these countries would acknowledge that Ahtisaari’s plan might also be applied to them", it seemed completely unacceptable that they might attempt to impose it only upon Serbia.

"Countries which support the plan presented by the UN Special Envoy for Kosovo-Metohija should thus be ready to face the consequences its implementation would have for their own countries," he explained.

According to Koštunica, Serbia still rejects Ahtisaari’s plan, and recognizes the validity of the UN Charter only.

He pointed to the fact that, instead of insisting on Ahtisaari’s plan, a compromise solution stemming from the UN Charter should be found for Kosovo "through patient and constant dialogue".
