Tadić announces Council for National Security

"Under the government's decision, the team will be complete on May 31," Tadić told the state television (RTS).

He added that after the formation of the council, talks would start on the future chief of the Security and Information Agency (BIA).

The president stressed that the security services should be managed by professional, non-political figures, and added that Serbia should educate new people, who would deal with security issues.

Noting that the security services had been discredited in the past and that there had been cases of abuse for political purposes, Tadić stressed that the services would never act outside their mandates, once permanent, civil supervision was established.

"The Council for National Security will be coordinating the work of all the ministries in the security domain and all the security and intelligence services. They will all have to do their job, otherwise big political problems will arise, which I, as the Serbian president, will not allow," Tadić stressed.

Tadić further said he would control the work of the security services, impose a special rhythm, and request reports on their work.
