University professors arrested on bribery charges

Emilija Stanković, assistant minister for higher education, has also been detained in a police action carried out in co-operation with the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime.

Police acted on suspicion that the accused have mediated in bribery and themselves taken bribes from numerous students of the Law Faculty in Kragujevac entering marks into students’ records and falsifying exam registers, the statement says.

Education  minister Slobodan Vuksanović said today that he learned about the police action from the media, adding that assistant minister Stanković, who is also a full-time employee at the Faculty of Law in Kragujevac, “made valuable professional contribution to the reform of higher education during her term in office”.

Emilija Stanković resigned from her post as assistant minister a month ago. However, the government hasn’t ratified Stanković’s resignation, Beta quotes its sources from the education ministry.
