Cabinet talks, day two

After the meeting, Jočić addressed the press saying that the DSS-NS coalition insisted on defining the principles for policies regarding Kosovo before any form of cabinet talks should occur. Jočić added that they made no mention of the prime minister position.

The meeting between the President and G17 Plus representatives commenced at 14h.

SRS and RS presented views on cabinet yesterday

The Serbian Radical Party (SRS) and the Democratic Party (DS) presented President Boris Tadić yesterday with their views on the makeup of the future government.

Even though the Radicals demanded the prime minister seat, they refused to reveal their candidate and his potential to gain support of at least 126 deputies in the Parliament, as given in the statement issued by the Presidential cabinet.

The DS delegation informed the President that it advocated the forming of a grand democratic government, comprising the Democratic Party (DS), the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), New Serbia (NS), G17 Plus, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and minority parties, led by their PM candidate Božidar Đelić.

The most interesting meeting is expected today. The DSS-NS coalition, which has the most potential to form cabinet coalitions according to some analysts, will come before the President with their platform. So far, this coalition has made it clear that they would not enter a government which may include the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

G17 Plus hopes that the consultations would yield an agreement on the swift makeup of the government composed of pro-European parties.

“DSS-SRS Cabinet coalition is very unlikely”

DS Political Council member Zoran Lutovac believes that a coalition between DSS and SRS in the Cabinet is very unlikely. Lutovac explained that the Radicals would fail to be true to their previously passed decision not to co-operate with the party of the outgoing Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica.

Lutovac added that the Democratic Party of Serbia should not expect the PM position in any possible combination. “If DSS and SRS agreed to form the government, The Radicals would cling to the PM seat for they are much stronger than DSS. Should such a coalition occur both parties would partially loose their identity”, Lutovac said in TV B92’s talk show Poligraf yesterday.
