Contact group invited to discuss Ahtisaari’s proposal
Dourlot could not specify a date for the holding of the Contact Group meeting. He added that the invitations have just been sent and that replies have not yet been received. Dourlot said that the team of special UN envoy Marti Ahtisaari is in permanent contact with countries of the Contact Group with which he shares the ideas entered in the final version of the document.Dourlot said that the Office of the Special Envoy (UNOSEK) presented ideas on the final document during meetings of the Contact Group and that it would be logical to resume related talks. Vienna daily Prese recently reported that Marti Ahtisaari and his deputy Albert Rohan will meet members of the Contact Group on January 26 in Vienna.
Dourlot confirmed to Serbian state news agency Tanjug that UNOSEK will complete the solution draft before the Serbian elections and that Ahtisaari is due to present this document to authorities in Belgrade and Pristina.
He added that this does not mean that Ahtisaari will take the final decision to Belgrade and Pristina but that this is a document to which UNOSEK expects comments from both sides.
Dourlot said UNOSEK is unable to predict the nature of these comments and that it therefore cannot tell whether or not they would be taken into account in the drafting of the final version of the document.
Dourlot added that the deadline for Belgrade and Pristina to provide comments is not known and that the period for presenting Ahtisaari’s document to Belgrade and Pristina has not been set.
