Bosnian court sentences Serbian war criminal

A statement by the court, which consists of foreign judges, said Stanković was responsible for committing war crimes against Bosnian Muslims in the area of Foča in August 1992.

He was convicted, in collaboration with Serbian policemen, of arresting Muslim men and women in the prison of Foča eastern Bosnia. They, based on racial and ethnic discrimination, tortured the men and raped the women, said the court.

The panel of the court listened to scores of witnesses before adopting the decision.

The International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has transferred some cases to the special Bosnian court because ICTY was packed with more dangerous and sensitive cases.
