Radicals and socialists losing support?

Daily Blic tried to answer the question of why the elections in Leskovac seem to be announcing the beginning of the end of the rule of these parties in the region.

The new Municipal President of Leskovac Vladan Marinković, a candidate of the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 plus, said that the SRS and SPS in Leskovac definitely fell from power on Sunday.

“The people of Leskovac showed their maturity in electing a democratic municipal president.” Marinković said.

Even though the parties that supported Marinković need three more officials to form a parliamentary majority in Leskovac, the DS and G17 stated that forming a democratic parliament will not be a problem because a number of smaller parties have already shown interest in offering support.

SPS and the Yugoslav Leftists had full control of Leskovac in 2000. The party had the parliamentary majority in 2000, but after a court case, the government was formed by the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) with help from the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO).

In the next elections, the SRS and leftist parties triumphed.

Currently, In the municipalities of Medveđa, Lebane, Vlasotince, Crna Trava and Bojnik, most of the parliamentary ruling coalitions are made of up parties from the so-called democratic bloc.

Furthering the blow to the parties, the SPS and SRS were unable to form parliamentary majorities in seven municipalities in the region after elections were held in October of this year.
