EU has hope for Serbia
Rehn, after meeting with Del Ponte, said that there is no basis for reinstating talks between the EU and Serbia, because Belgrade has made no progress in the search for Ratko Mladić.Del Ponte has asked the EU to remain firm on its stance towards Belgrade, adding that Serbia is not only hiding Ratko Mladić, but Radovan Karadžić as well.
President of the National Hague Cooperation Council, Rasim Ljajić, said that Rehn’s stance is just a continuation of the pressure being put on Serbia.
”The problem is that there is a severe lack of trust between the international community and Belgrade, while most of the international community believes that Belgrade will take care of its obligations only if it is under constant pressure, and that is what Carla Del Ponte is saying.” Ljajić said.
“That is where the pilling up of obligations comes from, some of which we objectively cannot fulfill, such as those related to Karadžić.” Ljajić said.
He said that the pressure being put on Serbia by the international community will continue until Serbia fulfills all of its obligations to the Hague Tribunal.
