G17 officials announce resignations

Dinkić confirmed that the decision of the party’s chief council will be respected and all officials and ministers of the party will exit the government on October 1.

He said that he believes that this move by the G17 Plus party will not disrupt stability in the country, and that Serbia will reinstate discussions with the European Union very soon.

“In the last couple of months, we have worked a lot in cooperation with President Boris Tadić and Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica and it is in our interest to maintain that cooperation, and to not be the ones who ruin it.” Dinkić said.

He said that an agreement has been reached on when the constitutional referendum will be held, but he did not wish to give the date, adding that Tadić and Koštunica would.

The G17 Plus executive council made a decision to exit the government and parliament, because it was dissatisfied with the fact that Serbia still has not reinstated stabilization and association discussions with the European Union. The talks were suspended in May and Serbia has yet to complete the main obligation for the continuation of talks; the extradition of Hague fugitive Ratko Mladić.
