"IT blindness" in Serbia

The association’s secretary Radivoje Filipović said there is “information technology blindness in Serbia”, and that the companies and scientists aren’t fully aware of the available information. According to him, new technologies are available free of charge to everyone in Serbia, yet very few are aware of this due to a lack of an integrated information technology system. He added that in the meantime, Serbia’s Ministry of Science pays millions of euros daily in order to make this technology-related information available on the internet.

“Our basic problem is being unaware of the existence of a chain of information, rather than unavailability. We don’t know what the neighbors are up to in their backyard”, Filipović concluded.

Filipović stressed the need for the Serbian scientific community and the companies to “use what they have”, and to become a part of a network of scientific and technical information, which will represent the foundation of the future IT society in Serbia.

He also stressed that the goal of the October conference is for the public to realize that the contribution of this gathering will be significant for the development of IT maturity and the need for a blanket IT system, which will bring scientists and companies into a unique network.
