US Vice President Mike Pence has backed Serbia's efforts to join the EU and stressed his country's desire to deepen relations with Serbia.

"The two leaders agreed that bilateral relations between the two countries are important, and expressed the desire to deepen the partnership between the United States and Serbia," said the statement.

Pence also supported the need for sustained reforms in Serbia "and further progress in normalizing relations with Kosovo," while the two leaders also discussed "Pence's upcoming visit to Montenegro, where he will participate in the Adriatic Charter Summit together with leaders from the Western Balkans region."

"Vice President Pence also announced that the United States will provide an additional USD10 million to the Regional Housing Program, an internationally funded joint initiative of Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro, which provides accommodation for people displaced the conflict in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s," concluded the statement, carried by Voice of America.
