The annual Preventive Priorities Survey of the U.S. think tank Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) does not list Russia as the main threat to the United States.

Europe makes it to think tank's list of "threat priorities"

The survey included "more than 500 experts" and aimed to "evaluate global conflicts based on their likelihood of occurring or/and escalating, as well as their possible impact on U.S. national interests."

According to the report, further intensifying of the Syrian conflict is among top threat priorities, that also include "a mass terror attack in the United States, a cyberattack on critical U.S. infrastructure, a confrontation with North Korea" - and "surprisingly, a political instability in the European Union as a result of the influx of refugees."

A possible confrontation with Russia "is not on the high priority list" of the report this time, Sputnik said, unlike last year, "amid the Ukrainian crisis."

But Russia is still "a mid-level threat" according to the CFR survey that "revealed Washington is still worried about a possible confrontation between Moscow and one of its NATO allies."
