MOSCOW Russia has put its security forces on the highest level of alert after five bodies were found in the Stavropol region. Reuters reported that Russia already tightened security before next month's Winter Olympics in Sochi, and after last month's terrorist attacks in Volgograd. Russia puts security forces on high alert in Stavropol The five bodies with gunshot woulds were discovered on Wednesday in four cars in different areas of Stavropol - "a gateway to the North Caucasus, where Russia faces an insurgency by Islamist militants who have threatened to try to prevent the Olympics going ahead." The news agency also said that explosives were also found near two of the cars, and that this has been confirmed by a spokesman for the Russian Federal Security Service of the Stavropol region. Other details are not yet known. Itar-Tass reports that a counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime has been introduced in two districts of Stavropol, and that an improvised explosive device went off near one of the cars, without causing any injuries. "Another discovered explosive device was destroyed by a robotic manipulator," the news agency said. It also quoted an official of the Territorial Center of the Russian Interior Ministry as saying that "cars with dead drivers" were reported on Wednesday night.
