VIENNA OSCE's Dunja Mijatovic has welcomed the UN General Assembly’s adoption of its first resolution on safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. The organization's representative on freedom of the media stated: OSCE welcomes UN resolution on journalists “We are witnessing attacks on members of the media every day and we all need to work together to improve their safety. The resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly is a big step forward in the joint efforts we need to take to protect journalists around the world." The UN General Assembly plenary passed a resolution by consensus on safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. The resolution also names November 2 the International Day to End Impunity for crimes against journalists. “Impunity is still one of the major threats to freedom of expression and free media and it must be eradicated. We need to raise awareness on this issue and come 2 November every year we will all campaign to end impunity,” Mijatovic said. The OSCE said that the representative recently launched a global campaign to end impunity for crimes committed against journalists. The campaign includes a video in English, Russian and Serbian and is available at www.youtube.com/oscerfom. B92
