CAIRO New clashes between Egyptian and armed groups broke out in Sinai on Thursday, the Egyptian state television has reported. According to the Nile News television, the clashes broke out in the town of al-Arish in northern Sinai, a day after Egyptian military killed 20 extremists. An unnamed army source and the state television have stated that 20 extremists were killed in air strikes near the village of Tumah near the Gaza Strip which is controlled by Hamas. Masked attackers killed 16 Egyptian soldiers at the border with Israel on Sunday and Egypt’s state television said that a radical Islamist group was responsible for the attack. After the attack, Egyptian President Mohamed said he had given “clear orders” to establish “full control in Sinai”.
