The Dignite was part of a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza, but other ships were prevented from sailing after docking in Greece. Activists have accused the Greek government of intervening on Israel’s behalf. A spokesperson for the Free Gaza Movement claimed that the boat declared its destination as Alexandria in Egypt and that was the only reason why it was allowed to set sail. The Israeli military say all diplomatic channels had been exhausted and calls to the vessel ignored before the decision to board the boat was taken.
