Gaddafi calls on supporters to march on rebel stronghold In the third message since July 1, the Libyan leader said that Libyan people were “stronger because they are defending their dignity, honor and soil”. "The hour of battle has sounded, prepare to march on Benghazi and on Misrata, and on the mountains of the west," he said in a message relayed by loudspeaker to supporters in Al-Ejelat, an eastern district of Tripoli. He also said the foreign "crusaders" would be vanquished because they were fighting an "unjust war," referring to NATO-led air attacks on his forces. "We are here and we will stay here on this ground ... I will stay with my people until the last drop of my blood is spilled," defiant Gaddafi stressed. He spoke as rebels prepared to advance in the west on the key town of Asabah, 80 kilometers south of Tripoli, and as the insurgents also readied an assault on the eastern oil town of Brega. In the same speech the Libyan leader called Sarkozy a “war criminal” who “tarnished his country’s history”. “This Sarkozy is a war criminal who has stained French nation’s history and destroyed his country’s ties with Libya and the Muslim world,” he pointed out in the message. He also added in the message relayed over loudspeaker that the French president was "mentally disturbed". "By leading a crusade against the Libyan people, he has led his country into a lost war," said Gaddafi. "He is not a Frenchman. The (French) people should ban this criminal."
