Almost half of people in England do not want Scotland to become independent, the BBC reported, quoting the results of an opinion poll. The ComRes survey for the BBC and Radio 4 found 48% of voters in England wanted Scotland to remain within the United Kingdom. Scotland's SNP government promised to hold a referendum on Scottish independence within the next five years. The party won in elections held in May of this year.
