The City of Moscow has banned the holding of a gay pride parade this year as well, said reports. Nikolai Alekseyev of the organizing committee confirmed this for the Interfax news agency. Alekseyev said that a deputy mayor notified them about the ban, although the gathering was, in his words, announced as a "cultural and educational event". A source with the city administration said that the permission was not granted. "And it's unlikely it will be granted. Even with the explanation that this is a cultural and educational campaign," said the source. Former Moscow Mayor Yuri previously banned announced gay parades each year, and spoke negatively about homosexuals. Organizers had hoped for a change in the city's position on this issue after Sergei Sobyanin became mayor.
