Denmark has decided to reintroduce controls along its border with Germany and Sweden, and will put up customs booths at crossings, harbors and airports. The BBC reports that the decision, announced by the country's Finance Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen, came "amid pressure from the right", and that it would be implemented "within weeks". Denmark to reintroduce border controls Denmark is one of the countries of the Schengen Area - a group of European states that established a traveling regime with no internal border controls. Frederiksen said the controls were "compatible with Schengen membership", and blamed "a rise in cross-border crime", said the BBC. Reports also suggest that the right-wing Danish People's Party (DPP) and the government agreed that Denmark would support a Franco-Italian proposal for changes to the Schengen Agreement itself.
