The United States is notifying foreign governments that the whistleblower website WikiLeaks is about to publish classified U.S. diplomatic documents. U.S. State Department Spokesperson P.J. Crowley said that he had warned that the WikiLeaks release “will probably create tension in relationship between our diplomats and our friends around the world." Washington warns allies about WikiLeaks According to him, the release of classified diplomatic cables could be harmful to U.S. national security and put lives and national interests at risk. Crowley said that Washington was in contact with their diplomatic missions around the world which had begun notifying other governments that that the WikiLeaks release could happen within days. In October, WikiLeaks released around 400,000 classified American documents about the Iraq war, and in July 77,000 classified files about the Afghanistan war. It is believed that the website has around 15,000 war reports from Afghanistan, 260,000 diplomatic telegrams, and a video of casualties in Afghanistan.
